Meet Dr. Sami Turetsky, PsyD
You’ve found me because something in your life isn’t working. Maybe it’s just a feeling you have that you’re struggling to put words to explain to others, because things look “fine” from the outside. Fortunately for you, you’ve found a therapist who loves words and language, and firmly believes that finding the right words to help us understand and communicate our experience to others is super important.
I also believe that for therapy to work, we have to be real with each other. When you’re in therapy with me, you get the real me: I’m the same person in the therapy room and outside of it. And that person is pretty smart, funny, and really puts other folks at ease. Humor is healing. So is the right curse word at the right time from someone who really gets it. You won’t get any blank nods and stares from me in therapy. My blessing and my curse as a therapist is that my face says it all. Be prepared.
My co-worker, Lala, who has vicariously absorbed enough skill over the years to be a highly-skilled dog therapist.
FAQs
What is my therapuetic approach?
My style is to be direct, and I provide a lot of feedback to my clients. I have an excellent BS meter, which my clients say is extremely helpful for them to be more honest with themselves- a prerequisite for therapy to be effective. I use a lot of playfulness and humor, because these topics are serious enough, and I believe bringing some levity to our most painful areas can help us look at them with less shame.
How will you feel after therapy with me?
As a result of our work, you will start to notice subtle changes: you’ll feel more present, more grounded in your body, and more decisive. You’ll be less drawn to asking those around you for advice as often, realizing that you already have a sense of what you want. You’ll notice that inner voice in your head that used to be constantly self-critical be a little quieter, or a little gentler in it’s tone. Food decisions will feel easier and negative body thoughts will ease.
What makes me different?
I bring all the best parts of therapy to the table- the technical know-how, the training, the skills and interventions to teach you new tools. Anyone can learn those. Where I really shine can’t be taught: relating to someone in a way that makes them feel safe to look at all parts of them, including the ones we don’t like to look at. You know, the parts we tend to hide or pretend don’t exist. With me, you’ll know that I’m human too, so you have no one to impress!

Some Fun Tidbits About Me
I am currently based in Seattle, WA and moved here a few years ago after living in Florida my whole life. I love the PNW! Some of my favorite things to do are check out art and culture events in the area (which is basically a full time second job in Seattle), being outdoors, volunteering at my local dog shelter, and spending time with my rescue dog Lala and partner. In the summer, you might find me out on my bike, trying out a new recipe, and taking an improv class!
